Mono Lake is located the east side of the Sierra Nevada Range. The tufa towers are what attracts a great number of photographers, me included. Morning light is the best but late afternoon is pretty good too. Shooting in the morning allows you to include the Sierras in the backdrop when you shoot the tufa formations.
