The Island is a 208 acre peninsular plateau bounded by two river branches of Lake Billy Chinook, the Deschutes River and the Crooked River. The Island is surrounded by three vertical cliffs some 200 to seven hundred feet above Lake Billy Chinook. The Island contains one of the last stands of western juniper big sagebrush-blue bunch wheatgrass and western juniper big sagebrush bitterbrush. It is a closed area. We were fortunate enough to be granted a special guided tour led by Oregon Sate Parks Paul Patton
