Chinchero is a small Andean village located high upon windswept plains at an elevation of about 13,000 feet. The village is towered over by the Vilcabamba mountain range and snowcapped peak of Mt Sacantay. There are some amazing terraces in the area with some still in use today. Chichero is also known for it's weaving. It's the home of the Interpretation Center of Andean Textiles. During our visit local women, dressed in traditional clothing, entertained us with weaving demonstrations showing off their weaving skills and beautiful handcrafted work. Also during our visit the women introduced us to authentic Peruvian cuisine and demonstrated traditional Peruvian cooking methods. After a great lunch we had the opportunity to view and purchase an amazing array of quality handwoven goods.
