On a recent trip to my former hometown, Ventura in Southern California, I took a day trip on Highway 33. The highway passes through beautiful Ojai Valley and then climbs up and goes through some really nice parts of the Los Padres National Forest. You can travel from shrubland chaparral to the pine forests on the slopes of Pine Mountain. And along the way you might be lucky and see some native Matilija poppies. I was lucky!
