This 7.5 minute video are photos I took last February and early March 2020 just before the pandemic reached the islands in full force. It features Oahu and Kauai. This "armchair tour" starts with morning outriggers at the fabulous beaches at Kailua. The long stretches of sandy beaches are a delight to walk and the bay offers all sorts of water sports. Then onto Waimea Canyon Botanical Park and Falls, the foothills of the Koolau Mountain Range, the North Shore, Kaena Pt. trail and bird sanctuary on the western tip of Oahu where you can see nesting Laysan Albatross, their chicks, and the Hawaiian native monk seal.
Kauai is also known as the Garden Island and that would be an accurate description. Kauai is the oldest and northern most island in the Hawaiian chain. This lovely island is draped in emerald valleys, sharp mountain spires, and jagged cliffs aged by time and the elements. Centuries of vegetative growth have formed tropical rainforests, navigable rivers, and cascading waterfalls. There are areas on this island that are only accessible by boat and air. The northern part of the island is rainforest and also offers some absolutely gorgeous beaches like Lumahai and beautiful Hanalei. On the northwest part of the island is the Na Pali State Wilderness Park. This place is known for it's pali or sea cliffs, narrow valleys covered in green, cascading waterfalls, and tropical streams. The famous Kalalau Trail starts at Ke'e Beach. It is a narrow footpath with absolutely jawbreaking incredible views. There's also the famous Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Waimea Canyon. You can drive through the famous Tree Tunnel lined up by eucalyptus trees and serves as the gateway to historic Koloa Town on the south side of the island. There are some fabulous beaches on the south shore of the island such as Poipu Beach and the amazing Makawehi Lithified Cliffs plus acres of golfs courses and hotels.
The music in this video is the guitar work of the late great Chet Atkins and a closing song by Cecilio and Kapono. Aloha and enjoy!
